Sporting Kansas City II today announced that the club have acquired 19-year-old left-back Joseph Addo Tetteh on a season-long loan from Ghanaian side Accra Lions FC with options to buy the player from end of 2022.
Tetteh becomes the second player to join Sporting KC II on loan from Accra, following the arrival of striker Rauf Salifu earlier this month. The Ghanaian duo ventured to the United States ahead of Sporting KC II’s 2022 campaign in MLS NEXT Pro, a new professional league which kicks off at the end of March. First-year head coach Benny Feilhaber and assistant coach Ike Opara, standout players at Sporting over the past decade, will lead SKC II for the club’s seventh season since launching in 2016.
Like striker Salifu, Tetteh burst onto the scene during the 2020-21 season in second-tier Ghana’s Division 1, propelling Accra Lions FC to a league title and promotion to the Premier League Ghanaian. The versatile defender started regularly at left-back in his first year with the club after joining the Tudu Mighty Jets in October 2020, anchoring an Accra defense that posted an impressive 0.96 goals against average.
Tetteh carried his strong form into the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League campaign, bagging two assists in nine appearances.
