Hexicon creates joint venture and licenses floating wind energy technology in Italy

In line with its strategy of being an early stage developer in key markets and working with local businesses, Hexic is looking for a partner with whom to partner to develop floating wind projects in Italy. Based in Bologna, Avapa Energy has many years of experience in developing onshore solar and wind farms and has the local know-how and knowledge that matches Hexicon’s profile in floating wind energy.

As one of the main beneficiaries of the EU Green Deal, Italy initiated the regulatory changes necessary for the development of offshore wind power. Along with the national preparations, AvenHexicon will identify suitable sites for floating wind farms in order to initiate the necessary authorization processes as quickly as possible. AvenHexicon will also adopt and promote the use by others of Hexicon’s patented technology for tilted tower floating platforms.

Marcus Thor, CEO of Hexic, said: “An important part of our business model is to enter promising new markets as early as possible and to establish both our project development skills and our technology with local partners. We have found a perfect partner in Avapa Energy, and with AvenHexicon we look forward to supporting Italy in its expansion of non-fossil power generation.

Alberto Dalla Rosa, partner at Avapa Energy, said: “Floating wind energy with its advanced low impact technology will play an important role in the Italian energy transition process, and we are happy to collaborate with Hexic develop floating wind farms in Italian waters.
